Shop TalkTen-channel video installation

In The Harvard Design School Guide to Shopping (Vol. 1, 2002), Rem Koolhaas claims that shopping is the universal language. Shopping is life, yet shopping invariably generates waste. Part of an accidentally ironic exhibition about trash during Tokyo Design Week, Shop Talk screened a series of point-blank confessional statements from people about why they consume and what they buy, blurring identity and detaching voice from picture to focus on personal narratives.

Shop Talk, 2006; ten-channel documentary video installation with sound; looping clips of variable length.

Concept, design, and images by Maris Mezulis. Curated by gift_lab. Produced by Maris Mezulis Studio. Exhibited as part of Treasured Trash at Design Tide Tokyo, October 2006.
